Melbourne Wedding Locations

By | Wedding Videography Blog | No Comments

We may be biased, with our home town by the bay, but Melbourne has a charm unlike any other that makes it the right location for a wedding. With a melange of inner city grit, bayside beaches, and gorgeous green parklands, plus the special gift of not quite knowing what the weather will bring (maybe that’s something only Melburnians understand!), Melbourne offers something unique for every wedding we attend.

Some of our highlights from 2013 include:

Noa and David

Noa, Preparing for her Melbourne Wedding

David and Noa: Undoubtedly both the smile and the dress of the year if there were Turbo Awards, the wedding of Noa and David deserves a special mention. Noa wore a silk dress with jewel encrusted lace, and their smiles couldn’t have been broader or more infectious. The couple decided to showcase the best of Melbourne’s landscape, choosing the Royal Botanic Gardens for their photo shoot. On one of those special blue-skied Melbourne summer days, David and Noa then moved to their reception at Encore, St Kilda Beach, with the backdrop of the St Kilda beach, iconic pier, and a few backpackers and joggers for good measure.

Winery weddings:

Laura and Anthony

Whether the Bellarine Peninsular (at Terindah Estate) for the wedding of Laura and Anthony in January, or the Yarra Valley for the wedding of Vanessa and Nick in February, Victorian wineries and wine regions are always popular spots for a wedding.

Some of our favourite spots in the wine region include:

Chateau Yering (check out our 360 degree tour): this location exudes old-world charm, a lush lawn which can be hired out for ceremonies, and accommodation for visiting guests.

Stones of the Yarra Valley: with a converted barn, a chapel, and a gorgeous function room that used to be a hay-store, Stones has it all.

Domain Chandon: few brides who are passing Chandon cannot resist a photo shoot in this spectacular winery, and the bubbly and cheese cannot be bypassed either!

But, when a winery isn’t for you, there are other country locations that should be considered…

Daylesford: just over 3 hours outside of Melbourne has long been known for spa indulgence, but it also offers true country charm to the wedded couple. In 2013, Sallie and Luke wed in this charming region. With her preparations at the Breakneck Gorge Retreat in Hepburn Springs, perched on a mountain top with unspoilt views of the valley below, Sallie then met her husband at the Daylesford Cider Company to seal their nuptials. The photo shoot took us to a haunting location at a disused barn. Tamara Cadd took this spectacular photo (left) of the newlyweds as a rainbow appeared on the way to the reception.

The Dandenongs is close enough for a day trip, or for a weekend away for those guests who need to get out of the city. Our pick at the foothills of the Dandenongs is Chateau Wyuna (check out our 360 degree tour).

And what about weddings in the thick of Melbourne?

For a modern feel, Luminare rooftop offers great views of Melbourne CBD, in central South Melbourne. A great location to duck down to Albert Park Lake or Middle Park Beach for photos, or have some urban photos in the South Melbourne Market. You can’t go past a coffee at the cafes around the area, like Chez Dre or St Ali. It’s a great area for your guests to be in while you have your Melbourne Wedding Videography and Photography shoot.

Then there is Carousel. For those old enough to remember it as a nightclub, Carousel on the banks of Albert Park Lake has a lake-side deck, and a warm, inviting reception centre that can suit your needs.

We love weddings at the Melbourne Zoo. Whether it is a barbecue reception, or something a little more fancy, the Rainforest Room in the heart of the zoo grounds provides a relaxed, family feel. And your guests can wander the grounds during the downtime between ceremony and reception.

And living in this city, it would be amiss not to mention some of our favourite hangouts:

Cookie: located in the centre of the CBD, it undoubtedly has the “best” pork belly curry we have ever tasted. I welcome suggestions on other places to try. www.cookie.net.au

Albert Park Village: the whole place provides something special, and we haven’t eaten a bad meal there.

Di Bella Roasting Warehouse in North Melbourne: we pride ourselves in knowing our coffee, and you cannot get better than this.  19-21 Leveson St, North Melbourne
